Purified terephthalic acid (PTA) is the preferred feedstock used in the manufacture of polyester fiber, PET, film, and engineering resins. PTA is produced from paraxylene (PX), which is a downstream derivative in the petrochemical chain.
PTA is a key raw material component in the polyester value chain. Within the polyester value chain, 61% of PTA goes into polyester fiber, 30% to PET, and the remaining 5% to polyester film.
